IN-HOUSE PRESENTATION

A workshop for exploring the power of story for revealing or conveying a depth and richness of meaning not otherwise readily accessible, in organisations and communities

Who is it for?

If your interests lie in investigating the deeper aspects of commmunity and organisational culture, then this workshop is for you.  If you'd like to be able to use story-based techniques to enrich other tools and processes, you'll find value in this workshop.

Consultants, facilitators, researchers, educators, leaders -- anyone seeking to go beyond the obvious -- will learn valuable and practical techniques and skills.

When is it?

Two days:   9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday 28 April (registration and coffee from 8:30 a.m.)  and 9  a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday 29 April.

Where?

(Not offered as a public workshop this year. The details below will apply when it is offered again.)

The venue is "Riverglenn", 70 Kate Street, Indooroopilly. Accommodation is available on site for non-local participants.

What?

The workshop content will be largely determined according to the needs of participants.  However, the main emphasis is likely to be the use of story (or anecdote or narrative, as it is also called) for diagnostic purposes and for reframing existing stories.   Depending on participant interest, topics may include:

diagnostic interviews using story

story circles -- collecting stories in small groups

analysing, interpreting and reporting on themes from collected stories

story-based intervention techniques: visioning; history trip; fairy story; appreciative inquiry interviews

crafting stories, and restorying existing narratives

story-based techniques for relationship building.

How?

The workshop will use a balanced mix of theory, activity and practice.  Participants will have the opportunity to experience the techniques as both participants and facilitators.

Facilitator?

The workshop facilitator is Bob Dick.  Bob uses story for many purposes in his own work.  His reputation as an educator, facilitator and consultant is based on more than 35 years of relevant experience, including the use of story.

As with Bob's previous workshops, you can expect the workshop style to be casual and participative, using robust and learnable processes. There will be clear and practical documentation.  With equal emphasis on the development of skills and understanding, theory and practice will be well integrated.  The aim is that you will be able to make immediate use of what you learn.

Cost?

The fee for the two days is $660.00 (GST, handouts, lunch and refreshments included), payable in advance.  An early bird rate of $550 is available for fees received before 12 April.  All prices are in Australian dollars and include GST.

Cancellations will result in a 90 per cent refund if received at least 10 days in advance, or a 50 per cent refund if received 3 days in advance.  Participants who are unable to attend are welcome to substitute someone else.  A limited number of half-price bursaries may be available for those unable to pay the full fee, or other arrangements may be possible.  There are also discounts for team attendance.  Ring Bob or Camilla on 07 3378 5365 to discuss this.

Negotiate your own in-house workshop

If you would prefer to have a workshop specifically designed to meet your particular needs, and run for you in your organisation or community, Bob and/or Andrew would be pleased to do that.  Important advantages of in-house and in-community workshops include their relevance (we fine-tune them to your needs), and their greater ease of application to real local issues.
